During this lecture Ilse will:
– teach the history and principles of Hanna Somatics for humans and how it has been applied to equines and canines (EHS and CHS)
– teach the history and principles of Hanna Somatics for humans and how it has been applied to equines and canines (EHS and CHS)
– explain the mind-body connection and learning process that helps reset resting muscle tension to a more neutral state when at rest.
– discuss examples of typical postures and movement patterns that can indicate chronic muscle tension
– share some Hanna Somatics exercises for humans/riders
– demonstrate a simple, quick maintenance EHS routine to do with any horseOver time restrictions in the body will accrue as a natural consequence of daily habits, stress, injury, repetitive movements or lack of movement. As a result characteristic postures, movement and behaviour develop and the brain forgets what normal or neutral feels like.

HS is a very gentle technique that enables the animal’s nervous system to relearn its natural range of motion and regain the feeling of muscles in a more relaxed “neutral” state. This is because HS works with a part of the brain that helps muscles relax naturally. This results in improved muscle function, better posture, easier movement and enhanced well-being as pain and discomfort caused by tight (chronically contracted) muscles is relieved. HS also helps build trust, bonding, and a stronger connection between the human and the animal.
