One Day Introduction – does what it says on the tin, run on an adhoc basis whenever anyone whats to do it.

Equine Thermal Imaging Technician Course

An in person 4 day course which can be with or without certification.

It covers:

  • Infrared Science; drawn from the Level 1 Thermography Certificate course recognised by BINDT following ISO Standards 18434-1:2008, 18436-7:2014.
  • A&P; whilst students are expected to have an understanding of equine anatomy & physiology, there is a section in the student manual that covers all the basic topics and these are discussed on the morning of the second day, along with their relationship to infrared radiation, to bridge together what the students have learnt on the first IR Science day and what they know about equine A&P.
  • Equine Thermal Imaging; This section teaches the Equine Thermal Imaging Standards & Protocols recognised by the American Academy of Thermology along with pre scan, scan, and post scan procedures, pattern recognition & basic report writing. It makes up 3 days of the 4 day course.

The course includes a theory examination of 2 hours duration based on the Thermography Certificate exam, and a practical examination of five case studies, four of which are formative with the fifth being summative and submitted for examination.

The aim of the course is to give the student a firm foundation in Infrared Science, camera handling and set up, patient and environment preparation, pattern recognition and basic report writing, to provide them with the tools to become a successful Equine Thermal Imaging Technician.

This course is certified by the ITC (Infrared Training Center) who are a global thermal imaging training body. Successful completion results in an Equine Thermal Imaging Technician certificate and is a foundation course for the Equine Thermographers Course.

Requirements: Students need to have a good knowledge of equine anatomy and physiology and be computer literate.

Next Course is 4-7 June 2024 £1500

Equine Thermographer Course

An in person 3 day course which can be with or without certification.

It Covers:

  • Further Infrared Science; This section has been drawn from the Level 1 Thermography Certificate course recognised by BINDT following ISO Standards 18434-1:2008, 18436-7:2014.
  • Advanced Thermography; This Equine section teaches the Equine Thermal Imaging Standards & Protocols recognised by the American Academy of Thermology, advanced techniques, image interpretation and report writing. It makes up 2 days of the 3 day course.

The course includes a theory examination of 2 hours duration based on the Thermography Certificate exam, and a practical examination of five case studies, four of which are formative with the fifth being summative and submitted for examination.

The aim of this course is to build on the foundation of the technician course and equip the student with the knowledge and understanding to be able to interpret the images and write a more advanced report, providing them with the tools to become a successful Equine Thermographer.

Successful completion of the Technician Course is a prerequisite of entry. This is the only course available that teaches students how to interpret their images.

This course is certified by the ITC (Infrared Training Center) who are a global thermal imaging training body. Successful completion results in an Equine Thermographer certificate.
