CAMadvocate Level 1 is a self-paced online course which utilizes case-based learning to ensure participants can easily implement their new knowledge and skills into their professional role. Over the course of 10 modules and approximately 11 hours of instruction, the canine professional will increase their understanding of canine arthritis, as well as the identification, diagnosis, and evidence-based multimodal management of this disease. Throughout, there is a focus on a multidisciplinary team approach to OA management and ensuring that there is a mutually beneficial, respectful relationship between all team members and the dog owner. Every veterinary technician and canine professional has a duty of care to increase their knowledge regarding this overlooked and often terminal disease. This course offers the attendee a complete overview of identifying, diagnosing and managing canine osteoarthritis with consideration of the biopsychosocial care model. It aims to offer contextual evidence-based education to enable the reader to immediately incorporate their new understanding into their professional role.This course was originally recorded for veterinary technicians. After good reception it has beenslightly adapted to be inclusive of the canine professional to ensure we are collectively giving the same advice to our clients.

The course aims to:

  • To be able to recite prevalence of OA, describe the progression of the disease and simplify how chronic pain is expressed.
  • To identify the difference between chronic and acute pain and the global impact OA has on the body and mind.
  • To understand and action an evidence-based approach to managing canine OA.
  • To recognise how common interventions work and understand the construction of a multimodal management plan.
  • To appreciate the bio-psycho-social approach to canine OA management.
